Making Waves

Making waves by Lorna Seilstad.
A Lake Manawa Summer.
Making Waves: A Novel (Lake Manawa Summers)

Summery:While being pushed toward an arranged and unwanted marriage with her long time suitor Roger, Marguerite finds her love of sailing at Lake Manawa. Away for the summer with her family she will do whatever it takes to get those lessons and to get out into the water. She just loves the feeling of the wind in her hair and the small of the lake. Of course her teacher...er rather her younger brothers teacher who is also teaching her has also seemed to get caught up in Marguerite's waves. And Marguerite herself is a bit captured by the handsome sailor, Trip.

Romance:She is engaged, thinking about someone, loving someone, flirting, admiring, a couple kisses, hugging, talking about love and who they love. Slight, brief implication/mention to the wedding night, but not inappropriately.
Bad Romance:Kinda cheating on someone.

Language:None.

Violence:A fist fight, arguing/yelling, Roger squeezes her hand hard, threatens her, locks her in a icebox for over an hour, she nearly drowns, Trip is thrown into the lake while unconscious (by the bad guys), a fire is set on his boat as well.

Other:Lying, gambling, mention of women working' at a casino/gambling place, drinking.

Time Period:1895.

What I Thought: What a feisty main character! She will make you laugh, feel sorry for her when she messes up, but proud when she gets back up again. A great plot, nice and mysterious...and exciting :) Love the time period and all the dresses described :)

Rating & Age:4 stars. 14 up.
