Beauty For Ashes by Dorothy Love.
Read my review of the first book, Beyond All Measure.
Summery: When her brother has married Carrie Daly knows almost immediately that she is going to need to move out. Her new sister-in-law seems not to want to do any of the chores and her children are unruly and rude. Carrie moves out and starts trying to find out where to go with her life... she has been practically engaged to Nate Chastain for a long time. Yet she hasn't been able to set a date. And she more than a little attracted to the new comer, Griff Rutledge. Griff Rutledge is new in town...looking for an old debt to be payed. But he is soon enraptured by Carrie Daly....and there is also the fact that the town could use his help with a horse race...
Romance: Attraction, flirting, pecks, a kiss, thinking about a kiss, loving/liking someone, thinking and talking about someone.
Inappropriate Romance: Someone marries, then a bit later runs away after using the man. The same lady may also have had an illegitimate child that was left at the Hickory Ridge orphanage.
Violence: An accident with an ax, yelling/arguments, mean words, injuries, mention of abuse, birthing pains, death, a couple fires.
Other: Smoking, gambling, rumors, drinking.
What I Thought: I think I may have liked the first book more, however this one did have the horses as a factor.... It was a great book with excitement, romance, small town drama and horses on the side. I enjoyed it and couldn't wait to get back to reading at some points in the story :)
