Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

Cinder: Book One in the Lunar ChroniclesSummery:Cinder is the ward of a woman who hates her and has her doing most of the work to earn money. Cinder is a cyborg and an amazing mechanic. One day the Prince (Prince Kai!) comes to ask her to fix an old android of his. he is understandably going through some difficult times, as his father is sick with Lutmosis, the Lunar based disease which has no cure yet..., and the Lunars are somewhat threatening war. He is drawn to the odd mechanic. And Cinder too, although she knows it will be bad for both of them if the admit to it and act upon it. For she hasn't even told him she is a cyborg yet, and he is soon to become Emperor soon, even if his father lives. Soon for both of them, their whole worlds will have become turned upside down.

Romance: Liking, a few almost kisses, a kiss, holding hands, flirting, thinking & talking about someone, crushes on Prince Kai mentioned.

Language: D--mit, D-m- (possibly, I'm not quite sure).

Violence:Yelling/arguing, mean words, abuse sort of, breaking a robot out of revenge, threats.

Other: Mutants, Lunars (mutants), magic like things(basically brain washing), Lying, cyborgs.

Time Period:Future.

What I Thought: A retelling of Cinderella, and a quite interesting one at that. An exciting dystopian and science fiction don't want to put it down! I know I didn't. The first book in the Lunar Chronicles, the next is going to release in...2013 I believe.

Nightmare's Edge

Nightmare's Edge by Bryan Davis.
Read my reviews of the other books in the Echoes From The Edge series.

Nightmare's Edge (Echoes from the Edge)Summery: Well it's finally, really happening. What they feared is only a few days until the universes collide together and a ton of horrible things will happen. So Nathan, Kelly, Daryl and his parents and many other (including a younger version of parents that Nathan has met due to parallel universe traveling...) friends are all trying to find a way to stop the impending doom. Walking around in creepy dream worlds, they try to find the keys to stopping the collision. All the while trying to stay alive from those who are trying as hard as Nathan and his friends are, only to stop Nathan rather than the worlds.

Romance:Cheek kisses, loving someone (parents).
Inappropriate Romance:Going to far and needing to be forgiven.

Violence: Searing someone's eyes out, murder, shooting, killing, injuries (bleeding, almost dying), yelling/arguments.

Other:Other worlds, parallel worlds, portals, dream worlds.

Time Period:Modern.

What I Thought:Good, but  a bit dark than Dragons In Our Midst and The Oracles Of Fire, I thought. I do like those series ^^^ better than this series, but for people who enjoy science fiction to fantasy, this would probably be a good series for them. As it is still a great book, well written, good characters and very exciting! A word of warning, Bryan Davis doesn't coddle his readers, he expects his readers to be smart enough to understand his writing (or most of it :P).

Sketchy Behavior

Sketchy Behavior by Erynn Mangum.

Sketchy BehaviorSummery: Kate Carter thinks she's just doing an art assignment...a description of some criminal. Somehow it is shown to a witness and a murder is caught. So now Kate is a hero! But also a target she has a policeman with her 24/7, living at her house. It's a little stressful to say the least for a 16 year old girl. When it gets so bad that many kids are pulled out of school from fear of their getting hurt Kate decides to just stay home. She starts to wonder about God and such, if she does die where will she go? And will he help her when there is this danger and she had never really cared about learning about him?

Romance:Mention of a dating, a past disaster on a date, kinda liking someone.

Violence: Almost suicide (thinking about it), murder, threats, death, injuries, shooting, yelling/arguments.

Other: Mention of drugs(brief), some therapy stuff. Like the stress not being good for Kate's "Psych".

Time Period: Modern.

What I thought: Extremely interesting. A poor teenage girl is shoved into a world of police and totally makes for an exciting story :) I really enjoyed it! My first of Erynn Mangum's and it was great :)

Winter's Child

Winter's Child by Cameron Dokey.

Winter's Child (Once Upon a Time)Summery: Kai and Grace, best friends, grew up hearing the story of The Winter Child. The North Wind held her and changed her, making her cold and un-aging. She must now right her parent's wrongs and the hearts of others.  After a a fight Kai disappears in the middle of the night without saying goodbye...Grace sees him go and sees when he follows the  Winter Child. And she decides she must follow him. The Winter Child is trying to finish her task. She is frozen at the age of sixteen, always going and fixing...but now she hopes she may have found love. Three people, one grand adventure!

Romance: A kiss, holding hands, loving someone, admiring, hugging, tlak of getting married.

Language: None.

Violence:A falcon scratches someone's face, yelling/arguments, falling from a great height, dying on the spot, death from old age.

Other:Magic of sorts, a curse/wish.

Time Period: Medieval/another world.

What I Thought: There were a lot of similarities with the real story, The Snow Queen. I do like how the author made the Snow Queen/Winter Child good. In the original she was bad...I think it was a good change. It was a great retelling and the fairy tale itself is lovely ;)

Catching Fire

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.
Read my review of Hunger Games.

Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)Summery:Those berries started it all, Katniss's actions to stay alive have put everyone she loves in danger. President Snow has paid her a personal visit to tell her to play her love life up and he'll keep her family and friends safe. He wants to see proof, to believe that she really loves Peeta, even if he knows it is just a show. But if she can't do this, people will get hurt. Peeta dislikes that she led him on and is only polite now, and Gale is just awkward to be around because of the games, Peeta and the kiss. But with the uprisings in some of the districts and all....even when trying not to Katniss is quickly becoming the Mockingjay.

Romance:Kissing (for show and for real), liking/loving, hugging, holding hands, flirting.
Inappropriate Romance: Peeta and Katniss sleep together for comfort against nightmares. (nothing happens). Johanna takes of her clothes in an elevator with Peeta and Katniss inside. (Katniss gets mad...go Katniss!)

Violence:Killing, injuries, fights, threats, talk/describing of wounds and blood, yelling/arguments.

Other:Lying (the lie about Katniss and Peeta being married and Katniss being pregnant), drinking.

What I Thought: I thought wrong. Only two things that I really disagree with and it is an exciting adventure. It's a page turner, you don't want to put it down and it has a great plot. Great dystopia and sequel. And I really enjoyed rereading it. I think that I didn't like it because immediately after finishing I read Mockingjay (the first time I read the series) and well I didn't like Mockingjay and that threw my view of this book off. But it is a great, well written book!

Rating & Age: 5 stars. 13+ (Or mature 12 year old, I have friends who have been 12, read it and loved it.)

13 Gifts

13 Gifts by Wendy Mass.

13 GiftsSummery:After getting in a bit of trouble with the principle Tara has been punished by getting sent off to her parent's old home town, while they go and study lemurs in Madagascar! There she stays with her aunt and uncle and her cousin Emily. It's been pretty dull until an strange old lady (with a duck shaped spot on her face) tells her that she must find a bunch of strange objects for her. She is told she must do so to right a past wrong... So Tara sets out to find them...doing odd jobs in exchange for the items on the list. And her new friends (who are a little weird too) are game to help her! Somehow they seem to understand what she is going through...

Romance:Crushing, liking, parents loving, a love potion, and boy stealing (love potion and boy snatching in the past). Mention of kissing a poster and admiring someone.

Language: None.

Violence:Yelling/arguments, pepper spraying someone.

Other:Not really anything...she kinda steals a comic, but then returns it feeling bad.

Time Period:Modern.

What I Thought: A little confusing, but a fun book. Enjoyable even for someone a little older... but mainly for tweens.

Rating & Age:3 stars. 11+

The Silent Governess

The Silent Governess by Julie Klassen.
Read my reviews of other books by this author.

Silent Governess, TheSummery:Running away from her home on a terrible night Olivia Keene not only witnesses someone, perhaps her father, strangling her mother, but also has a scare while fleeing at night in the woods. Then a day later she is accused of stealing, but what really happened is much worse, she has overheard Lord Bradley's secret...and he knows she did.
She is thrown into jail and through an accident she cannot talk, although she can communicate by writing. Lord Bradley will keep her as a servant for know...hoping to keep his secret just that, a secret. In the meantime Olivia has a place to stay that is safe, for as long as she can keep silent.

Romance: A couple kisses, touching, hugging, flirting, admiration. She walks in with lord Bradley in the bath, bare chested.
Inappropriate Romance:Premarital s-x (several mentions), illegitimate children.

Language: None.

Violence:Strangling, hitting(poker, maybe a slap), a fire, injuries, yelling/arguments, threats.

Other: Smoking, black mail, false accusations, drinking.

Time Period: 1815.

What I Thought: I loved it! It was a lot more exciting that The Apothecary's Daughter, the first book of Julie Klassen's that I read. There was a mystery and suspense and some very strong characters. Also a lot of historical facts about governesses. Very well written too.

The Apothecary's Daughter

The Apothecary's Daughter by Julie Klassen.

The Apothecary's DaughterSummery: Lillian Haswell has always wanted to see the world and have an adventure. She gets this yearning from her mother, she knows. But of course Lilly would never run away like she did. She hates to think about her mother...abandoning them. Now nearly at the age to decide what to do with herself she gets an offer from her mother's brother to come live in London for a while with him and his wife. There she is wooed by suitors and leads a lively life. Will she return to her small town and her father's apothecary shop where she found life dull? And what can she do but go back when she hears of their need for help?

Romance:suitors, a few kisses, talk of marriage, attraction, Thinking about someone, loving someone, flirting.
Inappropriate Romance: Breaking of wedding vows, illegitimate children.

Violence:Destroying a shop, yelling/arguments, slapping someone, death from a disease and old age.

Other:Diseases, mention of slight drinking.

What I Thought: A simple Jane Austen if you will. A bit slow starting, but I can guarantee you shall enjoy it if you are a Jane Austen time period lover. Perhaps even if not. Although it isn't the fasted of books, it is still lively and has it's mysteries.

Dolphin Tale

I know I usually don't do movies, but I did want to review this one.

Dolphin Tale is based off a true story about a dolphin named Winter who loses her tail in an accident. She goes on to learn how to swim without her tail but it causes muscle to build up to where it could hurt her spine. I'm not sure if it's in the real story, but in the movie a boy named Sawyer who is hating Summer School, missing his cousin who is away in the army and is still not trying to make friends. But when he finds Winter and comes back to see her he forms a bond with her. When things look up when she learns to swim without her tail everyone at the marine hospital is happy. But they are in debt and then they find out the bad news about Winter... Sawyer and his new friend Hazel have an idea to find a prosthetic tail for Winter and to have a show to raise money to help save the hospital. Can they pull it off?

What I Thought: It was a great movie and very inspirational. You are rooting for Winter and victory :) It had its funny moments and its memorably touching ones. I would definitely recommend it and it is a family friendly movie, there is a bit of blood shown when Winter is found, but it is not very disturbing.

Objectionable Content:Some yelling and arguing, bathing suites/shirtless guys shown at a pool party. Winter's tail looks bad and she has blood on her when she is found. Hazel's dad tells Sawyer and Hazel a story about how an Indian god turned children in to dolphins.

City Of Bones

City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

City of Bones (Mortal Instruments)Summery:One night Clary Fray starts seeing things...demons and their hunters to be exact. As she tries to deal with the new world that she sees, the next night her mother has disappeared and she has killed a creepy demon. Soon the demon hungers, or Shadow Hunters as they call themselves, she met the other night have taken her in. As she journeys to find her mother and the keys to her past she grows closer to the Shadow Hunters, especially the somewhat charming Jace... However her old friend Simon seems not to like her new life....

Romance: Flirting, a couple kisses, slight crush, admiring.
Inappropriate Romance: Some bad jokes regarding beds or female bodies, mention of making out. Reproducing mention briefly and not descriptively, skimpy clothes. She lies in bed with guy. I can't remember if he slept in it with her or not. It's possible I may be thinking of the next book... There are also a few gay characters (2)

Language:D-m-, A--, H--l, P--s, Ba----d, b---h, da---t, and God's name in vain.

Violence:Killing demons and such, injuries, some gruesome descriptions, hitting, being bitten by a werewolf, thus turning in to one, yelling/arguming.

Other:Tattoos kinda, werewolves, vampires, demons, angels (but not really...descendants.), warlocks, fairies, magic kinda.

Time Period:Modern.

What I Thought: An interesting book I kinda guessed part of it and that made me happy. :) Other than a couple things it was pretty clean. For a secular book of this genre. However I do not agree with the bad things and language in it. And some of the views/topics.  It was pretty exciting and kept me reading and wanting the second book.

Rating & Age:3 stars. 2? 14+

The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner Trilogy, Book 1)Summery:Thomas woke up in a dark box... remembering nothing but his name. When the box reaches the top of wherever he is, he is greeted by a group of boys called Gladers. He is told by the boys there that this is the Glade. For 2 years, every month a new boy shows up. There is a maze outside the Glade that the Gladers  have been mapping out, as it changes everyday. For 2 years...and they haven't found a way out. There are monsters outside called Grievers that are so is hard to imagine what could have created them. No one can remember their life before the Glade either. One thing else Thomas knows...he just has to be able to run the maze....mapping it out...

Romance:A bit of attraction, holding hands.

Language: Ar-e, made up ones an ones like cr-p and s-ck. (I have included those because some people consider them to be cuss words, usually I don't but I think I will start to, now.)

Violence:Death, banishment, monster mutations chasing and "sticking" you, pain/injuries, yelling/arguments, hitting someone, trying to kill someone.

Other:A sort of  disease killing some people mentioned, manipulative people.

Time Period:Future.

What I Thought:Wow. It drew me in pretty quickly and though it was perhaps a bit scary or dark is was about on the same level as Hunger Games and just as exciting! I liked it a lot :)

To Die For

To Die For by Sandra Byrd.

To Die For: A Novel of Anne BoleynSummery:Childhood friends were she and Anne. While Meg Wyatt has a hopeful beau, Will, he soon feels called by the Lord and decides to take up Priesthood, which leaves her upset and more than a little bit wistful when Anne catches the eye of the King. But she is certainly happy for Anne, being the best of friends. She is taken in as her lady-in-waiting when the King and Anne marry. But no one could guess the horror of what happens to Anne... Hear the story of Anne Boleyn through her friend's eyes. And see another point of view to the story.

Romance:A couple kisses, hugging, touching, kissing hands, loving someone, thinking and talking about someone, yearning to bear children and marry.
Inappropriate Romance: Henry was a womanizer. So aside from his mistresses and illegitimate children there were also unfaithful wives, husbands, mistresses, mention of marriage bed that would be a little unsuitable for younger teens (and well anyone really :P).

Language: None.

Violence:Killing people, hunting, slapping and/or hitting, yelling arguments.

Other:Abuse, divorce.

Time Period:1518-1536

What I Thought:It was, honestly, a bit depressing...but it does give you a totally new take at the story. There is quite a bit of cheating and etc. :( But if you are an English History/Henry the VIII fan you'll most likely enjoy! I am a bit of a fan and I did find it depressing...but it is a depressing story. The author did a good job :) So think it over and read some other reviews before deciding to read it.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

DivergentSummery: At 16 teens are made to choose a faction:Amity (Peaceful), Erudite(Intelligence), Dauntless (Bravery), Abnegation (Selflessness) and Candor (honesty). When Beatrice Prior's test results aren't clear she is told she is divergent. Which she is immediately advised to keep to herself...but why? When she changes Factions (from Abnegation, she never found herself to be selfless, to Dauntless.) she becomes Tris...somehow she has always been tough. Not only that but her instructor, Four seems to be attracted to her as she is to him. Her whole world is upside down...can she be Dauntless enough to survive the upcoming battles?Who knows...

Romance: Some kisses, hugging, holding hands, making out kinda (I disagree), touching, liking, thing and talking about someone.
Inappropriate Romance:Tris has her towel stolen from her at one point and is taunted before she reaches the bathroom(couple seconds), one of her fears is being pushed for s-x, she mentions it to her boyfriend and at once or twice they touched a little to close for my liking.

Violence:Facing fears9sometimes violent ones), killing/murder, severe injuries, death, yelling/arguments, fighting (fists, until knockout/unable to continue), suicide, attempted murder.

Other:Tattoos, drinking ( a character gets drunk and one time mentioned otherwise).

Time Period:Future  (dystopia).

What I Thought: Ah-mazing! This book kept me up at night reading! Just as good and exciting as Hunger Games and is about the same with the violence and a little touchy on some of the romance but otherwise clean of language. Loved! And it's all thanks to my wonderful teen librarian for recommending it to me :) And you guys keep and eye out for No.2 it comes out in May!!!!!!!!!!

Language: None.

Violence:A car accident, fairies dying, baby kidnapping, injuries, dangerous charms (when worn could bring death), crawling around in dark tunnels and a church caving in, vandalism.

Other:Fairies, goblins, witch (brief scene and rumors of), fey, stealing a little, lying, changlings, being stolen by fey.

Time Period:Modern.

What I Thought:I found it better than 13 Treasures, more exiting :) A good faerie book! Many secrets and a lot of surprises. :)

Rating & Age: 3 stars, 12+ *note*  I am going to try to really go deep with my ratings now, so no changing...if it really stands out then it'll be four or five, if it's average it will be 3. Anything below that isn't so good :P

Breathless by Lurlene McDaniel.

BreathlessSummery:Travis Morrison is a champion diver, he is popular and has a great girlfriend. He had it all.And then one day he takes a dive of a cliff that changes his life. As he leaps his leg breaks and when taken to the ER it is discovered that he has bone cancer. Soon he is fighting it off but seems to think that he won't be able to recover. He asks his friends whom he loves to much to help him take control...he is going to die anyway. That is his reasoning. His best friend Cooper is the one he asks to help him at first...but he can't help but tell his girlfriend Darla and sister Emily...will they decide to help him?

Romance:Liking/loving someone, thinking/talking about someone, wanting to kiss someone, a kiss or two.
Inappropriate Romance:Two characters are implied to have s-x (she takes of his shirt, their in his room), a past mistake of having s-x with someone. mention of the largeness of Darla's chest.

Violence: Being in pain, breaking a leg, injuries, yelling/arguments, talk of suicide, abusive father, Cooper's mom is saved by Cooper from some men who were hitting her around.

Other:Mention of drugs, being drunk, lying/hiding something.

Time Period:Modern.

What I Thought:I do not think that suicide is in anyway right...but you have to wonder....would it be different in this situation? I don't know...only God does. Though this book did have a few objectionable things the story was sweet and though a bit sad, it had a great message of love.

Rating & Age: 3 stars. 14+
