The Selection by Kiera Cass.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks. Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
Inappropriate Romance: There were two scenes in which America's boyfriend was in her room and they were making out. There were a one or two other make out scenes (I don't really approve of) however non of the make out scenes were very descriptive. The Selected are told that they are to never to deny the Prince of anything and it's implied that the same goes for something beyond a kiss.
Violence:Several attacks from the past or on another town mentioned, two attacks on the palace while The Selected are there, slapping someone, small injuries, threats, yelling/arguments.
Other:Castes, homelessness, starvation, lying/hiding something,
My Thoughts:WOW. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I had read a review or two about it that said it was good. The blurb on amazon was interesting enough and I liked the cover. It might have been all of that and the trailer (see below) combined that made me finally get from the library and try it. I wish I had done it sooner. This is a stunning book that had me up late reading. I loved pretty much every single minute of reading it and I loved the characters. It's calm and exciting at the same time...I just can't explain or express all that I loved about it. There were a couple things that I didn't like but for the most part it was pretty clean. I cannot wait for the second book and in the time between then and now I just might reread this book. I would recommend to teen girls.
