~MR~ Valkyrie Rising

Valkyrie Rising (Valkyrie, #1)Book Description:Nothing ever happens in Norway. But at least Ellie knows what to expect when she visits her grandmother: a tranquil fishing village and long, slow summer days. And maybe she’ll finally get out from under the shadow of her way-too-perfect big brother, Graham, while she’s there. What Ellie doesn’t anticipate is Graham’s infuriating best friend, Tuck, tagging along for the trip. Nor did she imagine boys going missing amid rumors of impossible kidnappings. Least of all does she expect something powerful and ancient to awaken in her and that strange whispers would urge Ellie to claim her place among mythological warriors. Instead of peace and quiet, there’s suddenly a lot for a girl from L.A. to handle on a summer sojourn in Norway! And when Graham vanishes, it’s up to Ellie—and the ever-sarcastic, if undeniably alluring Tuck—to uncover the truth about all the disappearances and thwart the nefarious plan behind them. Deadly legends, hidden identities, and tentative romance swirl together in one girl’s unexpectedly-epic coming of age. (taken from Goodreads)
Thoughts:I think I had read a  couple reviews (at least one) and it seemed that they only kinda liked it. However I felt differently....because I  LOVED it! First off this is only my third or fourth book involving Norway, viking, and Norse mythology. But this is probably my favorite. It had some cool facts, but not much that I didn't already know. It did take me a few chapters before I was really loving this book and getting caught up in it. And I did get caught up, because there was so much mystery, excitement and kick butt warrior girls :) Plot wise it could have been better, but I still thought it was pretty good. There were some things I guessed, but there were still surprises for me.
I liked Ellie and I thought that Tuck had a little Puck flair in him, although it might have just been the whole names rhyming thing :P But Tuck definitely proved himself to Ellie...and I liked that. And the roof scene at the end? Dawwwwwhhhh! There were several funny parts involving Ellie's brother that I liked too. This book was actually pretty clean, there a couple of crude jokes, and slightly inappropriate romantic implication, a bit of drinking, a couple kisses and language wise it was a 2. I would recommend for 14-15+ girls who like a bit of action with their adventure and romance. I thought, overall, that this is a book that I would want to probably reread, one whose sequel I will read and one whose characters I will remember, because of their great adventure :D
Cover thoughts:I really like it! The mountains almost seem like wings behind Ellie. I like the mist and the hazy form of Tuck (I'm guessing) in the background and how confident and tall Ellie looks. And the Norse-y stuff on the sides...cool :)
Stars:4.5
