Shades Of Earth

Shades of Earth by Beth Revis. Third book in the Across The Universe series.

Shades of Earth (Across the Universe, #3)Book description: Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh--to build a home--on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience.

But this new Earth isn't the paradise Amy had been hoping for. There are giant pterodactyl-like birds, purple flowers with mind-numbing toxins, and mysterious, unexplained ruins that hold more secrets than their stone walls first let on. The biggest secret of all? Godspeed's former passengers aren't alone on this planet. And if they're going to stay, they'll have to fight.

Amy and Elder must race to discover who--or what--else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. They will have to look inward to the very core of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed--friends, family, life on Earth--will have been for nothing.

Objectionable:Gruesome deaths, battles, injuries, drugs and the use of them, lies, Elder and Amy sleep together but the scene ends before anything is "shown" to the reader. Language was a 3.

Thoughts:Wow. This was amazing! I was, of course, excited to see what Centauri-Earth would look like. What kind of aliens would live on it. What would happen and the adventures to be found on it etc. I didn't know, really, what to expect. So I just expected to like it or love it. Because this happens to be a really great author. And it was love. The plot was frexing brilly and so interesting! There were many thrilling twists and turns. Never a dull moment and I finished this book pretty quickly :P  The ending was perfect and I felt really satisfied. for anyone who has read SOE, the whole no chapters from a certain someone? Totally knew it was just Ms.Beth playing with us. She wouldn't be totally evil with her killing :P Her character deaths (that any fan should know about) were great :) There were some surprising, sad and gruesome ones :D

Overall this was one brilly book, the best of the series in my view. It felt like with this series each book was better than the last. This is one of my favorite series :) While there are some things I don't' agree with, but the plot and mystery really makes up for it. The whole drug (Phydus?) thing that kept coming back around in each book was beautifully done. Basically if you want a series with great plot lines and exciting reveals this is your series. I would recommend to YA+ girls who enjoy science fiction, romance and some adventure :) Although with the deaths and stuff guys might like it too.
Characters:I liked Elder and his loyalty to his people.(spoiler >>) It was interesting to see him out of the leader role again, only this time with the Earth people and Amy's dad taking over instead of others on Godspeed. I also really liked meeting Amy's parents. However Amy was my favorite character. She was strong and determined to get to the bottom of what was happening. And she was kinda on both sides of the group and sticking up for Elder when her dad put him down :) I also liked an army lady who was second in command...Elizabeth? E something? :P She was a strong character and seemed really nice :) I thought that the characters were well done...especially when some got killed pretty quickly :P
Cover:I'm curious about what the this cover would look like in the first designs. I really want to know :) I still like the green and plants though.
Love, Sierra
