Tessa Hall's PURPLE MOON blog tour stop & excerpt

I am so happy to be hosting Tessa's PURPLE MOON BLOG TOUR here!!! I have an ecopy and I'm enjoying it a whole lot so far :D I'm excited because Tessa is not only a young author who got published but she's also from (sorta) my area! Definitely exciting. So make sure you get all the details of this great blog tour (one day late...oops) and check out the cool extras :))
Tessa Emily Hall is a 19-year-old author of Purple Moon, her YA Christian fiction novel to be published September 2013 by Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas. She is also the editor over the faith department for Temperance Magazine, a column writer for Whole Magazine, a contributing writer for More To Be, as well as the PR for God of Moses Entertainment. Other than writing, Tessa enjoys acting, music, Starbucks, and her Teacup Shih Tzu—who is named Brewer after a character in her book, as well as her love for coffee.

“Purple Moon” Excerpt: Farkle in the park
(The previous fact or fiction was TRUE.)
Three teenagers sitting on a blanket at the park with PB&J sandwiches, teddy grahams, and juice boxes is probably an interesting sight for the parents of the little kids playing around
us. This doesn’t seem to bother Hayden and Patrick, though. Patrick especially acts like he belongs here.
“What’s a Farkle?” I ask after Hayden gives a five-minute speech on her plans for us today.
Patrick looks totally offended, his grape jelly-circled lips creating a perfect O. “You’ve never played Farkle before?” His words are muffled by a mouth filled with teddy grahams that crumble out as he speaks.
I laugh. “Can’t say that I have.”
“Patrick, that may be because we’re the ones who invented the game.”
He crinkles his eyebrows together as if he’s confused at his girlfriend’s response, then something finally seems to click in that tiny little brain of his. “Oh—”
She throws a teddy graham at him. “We actually stole the name from a dice game. But anyway, it’s a dare game. You first choose a dare, then the group forms a circle and holds
up either one or two fingers. The minority is out, and then they repeat the process of elimination. The last two people left in the circle have to play rock-paper-scissors. Whoever loses must do the dare. Got it?”
I nod slowly.
“Here.” She takes Patrick’s sandwich out of his mouth and drops it on the blanket. “We’ll show you.”
Hayden and her boyfriend do a demonstration of “Farkle” by holding up either one or two fingers, then playing rock-paper-scissors. I’m not sure why they couldn’t just skip the beginning and go straight into the rock-paper-scissors to determine who does the dare, but I decide not to ask.
“More people usually want to join in playing as the game goes on.”

About this scene:

The reason I incorporated “Farkle” into this scene was because it was a game that I participated in at a summer camp four years ago. A group of girls at the camp made it up. And just like the scene suggests, more people ended up joining as the game continued. After the camp, my friends and I started playing it at the mall. Some of the dares included: going up to a security guard and taking a picture with him, running up to a stranger and giving them a hug or a high five, etc. I was too afraid to do the dares, but it was always entertaining to watch the others make a fool of themselves, haha =)
Fact or Fiction?:
Guess this fact or fiction, and be sure to stop by the next blog tour stop to see if you guessed correctly! (You’ll also receive one extra entry for the “Purple Moon” Prize Pack if you send me your guess.)

Selena's life isn't turning out to be the fairy tale she imagined as a kid. That hope seemed to vanish long ago when her dad kicked her and her mom out of the house. This summer might finally hold the chance of a new beginning for Selena ... but having to live with her snobby cousin in Lake Lure, NC while waiting for her mom to get out of rehab wasn't how Selena was planning on spending her summer. She soon begins to wonder why she committed to give up her "bad habits" for this.

Things don't seem too bad, though. Especially when Selena gains the attention of the cute neighbor next door. But when her best friend back home in Brooklyn desperately needs her, a secret that's been hidden from Selena for years is revealed, and when she becomes a target for one of her cousin's nasty pranks, she finds herself having to face the scars from her past and the memories that come along with them. Will she follow her mom's example in running away, or trust that God still has a fairy tale life written just for her?

Make sure you go and check out the other stops on the tour!! ↓↓↓ Also, thank you so much to Tessa for putting up with my craziness and lateness. I've had a crazy schedule lately so...nothing has been getting done. Haha. But I was so happy to host her here and I hope you pick up her book, I'm sure it's great!! (from what I've read so far and all =D)

  1. I have this book to read also but because I first agreed to review it way back when I had very few review copies, I haven't been able to read it. Glad to hear it's good so far! Sometime I'll snag a paperback copy and read/review it! :)

    BIG congrats to Tessa.

  2. Hm. I think that's a lie.

Farkle! Now I want to get out my dice.

If you have book news or anything!
I'd love to hear about it =)
